Could someone tell me how this site was built

My main client (he pays the bills while I do my other stuff) wants me to build a site like this one


and WOW, that's quite a site, they combined chat rooms.forums and more. He's wondering if there is some software we could buy that would allow a site like that. I'm thinking it's all custom code, but can't see what sofware is running the board. Any thoughts appreciated.

Looks like a Joomla site to me. Check it out with all extentions etc avalible free you should be able to build a site with similar functionality easy enough. and its free
