Corona Virus Cases Website Hacked?

I've been following this website: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

As I'm sure many of you have. And last time I checked there are some STRANGE statistics.

The death toll skyrocketed with 892,000+ deaths attributed to Vatican City.

I'm pretty sure it's in response to this news article about the pope praying for a Corona Virus cure.

Given the situation this almost seems like a hack done by terrorist groups who like to spread misinfo in times of crisis. This website must be getting a ton of visitors and some may believe it. Could be a prank by Anon or some random hacker. Either way it's a shame and a bit distasteful.

This one has even more recent data (the one posted above shows 153,648 as of time of writing.
The one below has 167,811.

Unfortunately, even the one I posted is not totally "current". Someone is updating it behind the scenes, but the stats updates keep rolling out in non-standard formats (like news article reports), so to get it all updated to live numbers is tricky business.

But as far as things go, I've found the CSSE / JHU arcgis map to be the primary 'legit' source to watch.

me neither. but here we are, tracking the spread of the virus and hoping for the best. This is our reality right now and we should cope with it.

The one I posted lags a bit behind every day, for some reason. To get real stats, you need to look for the regional news. "xxxcity cases"

In my city the numbers are much higher than reported nationally. It takes a while to update databases.

That's why the numbers jump suddenly sometimes. It's not the virus speeding up, just data collection.
