Why are people buying facemasks - you don't need them to prevent getting corona?

It's the responsible thing to do for the sake of the others, also some places (small shops, small bank saloons) are starting to require/ask (written note on the enter) wearing masks to be allowed in.
Only chinese people are wearing them around here (yeah I know, the irony).
I to went see my friend at university and all the chinese internationals were walking around with masks and keeping away from everyone - all the non-mask people like they're rubbish and everyone spread this shit to them. Smug assholes felt like jerking those goofy masks right off their faces.

Because that's all we could do. Although we won't stay immune to the virus by just wearing facemasks.

Homemade masks (scarf like) aren't effective at all. To test it out, just use any spray can. If you feel or see any liquid/particles go through, then so will a sneeze.
