Copyscape and original content

Hi guys,

If this is in the wrong section apologies.
Im a noob to writing content but i just used spin chimp for the first time on an article. To be honest I didnt really understand it and mostly manually edited an article i found and liked enough to post on my site. If I type my url into copyscape and it doesnt show anything does this confirm it passes copyscape for original content|? its not the paid version just regular copyscape\? I only changed about 20/30 words of a 650 word article.
Am i missing something? I want to do mostly original content but as im starting out im going to spin maybe 10% of my content to get some bulk.

What do you mean? You only changed 30 words out of the 650 and you're asking whether or not it qualifies as "original content"?

I've never used spin chimp. But yes, if you type your url in copyscape and it returns zero results then it has passed.

That being said I don't think spinning 30 words from a 650 word article would be enough. Something must be wrong.

Thanks for the replies. I re read the articles. Ive re written sections and various sentences and its a lot more than 30 words.
Ive done 3 articles now and all pass copyscape. I realised I wasnt actually using the spinner but rewriting with my own words. The subject matter is something I have good knowledge of so Its easy enough for me to find good/better alternatives than what im using.

I just wanted to ensure That if i type my url into copyscape and it didnt show a problem then what I was doing was ok
As mentioned Im relatively new to this. Its my first site and Im just learning how it all goes together.

Are your articles readable though? Grammatically perfect and whatnot?

The articles are grammatically perfect and read perfect too. I hate when a site looks like its been written by a one year old. I always wondered why sites with backward English existed, what purpose they serve and how they made money?

What's the difference between premium copyscape and free? Surely the end result is the same?

If it doesn't show any results than you are safe. The only difference between premium and free is that with premium you can paste your article into a box and it returns (or not) results. With the free version you have to specify a url to check the uniqueness of your article.

If the posted articles are not indexed, then CopyScape has no way of knowing they exist. I also don't think that changing 30 words from 650 words would be enough.

As other have said, the free version of Copyscape does the job. As long as it passes you should be fine. Where did you get the original articles from?

I agree with everyone here. For future reference, 30 out of 650 is nowhere near enough. Copyscape doesn't use the same technology that Google does. Safe in Copyscape doesn't mean that you're safe in Google. Google takes into account synonyms, plurals and other related phrase/word changes that Copyscape doesn't seem to be very good at detecting.

Example: if you search in quotes in Google for "fantastic works of art in miami" you'll see that google highlights/bolds words like "paintings" "pieces" and "art pieces" as opposed to the original "works of art" phrase. Basically proves that google understands things like synonyms.

If I rewrite an article I just write it all from scratch. I keep the basic ideas of the original, but it's all written using my own words. That way I can pass Copyscape's duplicate filters and Google's.

If you are building a site that you want to rank long-term you'll have to make sure that your content is your own. You can count on the fact that Google is going to get better at language processing over the coming years...their search business depends on it.

It will not eliminate something if only 20/30 words, but do not change the discussion ..
It's better to edit the beginning or end of the article ..
