Copyright Issue on my PBN

I think you made his website popular and gain traffic. He looked at it and became jealous because he did all the work and gave up on it thinking it was a failed project then you come along few months later and reap the rewards. This is a great lesson to all the newbies, "You don't become successful overnight, there's no fast money, you work hard on it and in the long run it will pay off, never give up".

It's just a PBN site. I'd de-activate the domain, delete or clientHOLD, for a simple reason: Don't underestimate pissed people, they can be like stalkers: They spend hours or even days of research to find your identity and ways to hurt your business, they hire lawyers for a lot of money, they report you to Google for spam, they use the Google DMCA form, they send e-mails to your registrar, your host, the merchants you advertise on your money site, every contact they can find. Not a joke, there are people making this their personal crusade and devote their life to it.

Btw, selling the domain back to him could get you in trouble for cybersquatting, even if the domain expired. A lawyer could easily turn this into a "bad faith" thing.

Sidenote: Legally, it's not just his logo, it's his content, too. You have no right to use it, just because the domain it was on expired. Copyright doesn't work this way.

better you change the logo that's a good idea

The risk is still there even if you changed the logo & title. Next time, run your the content in plagiarism checker or do your research before you copy the content.

I learned this the hard way. 11 years ago I bought a domain for my PBN that was used by United Nations for some obscure project of theirs. By the time thy figured out it expired and all a year already passed. I put back stuff from archive to it. At first they thought I stole it, but it didn't take long form them to figure out what happened so they went after the copyright infringement and they issued a cease and desist and a request to transfer back to them as if they had the right to use the domain because it had UN letters in it. It was only PR2 so I said to myself "lucky me I won't lose a thing if I let them have it." I transfer it over and we are done. Or so I thought.

The US office also sent a note to my country to the local UN office. Our local UN office didn't have a clue about what happened and why and that it's already solved - they just handed the case over to the police. So I got summoned to appear at the police office in charge for cyber crime. Penalty for IP theft: max 3 years in jail.

So I had to explain myself in the office for 1 hour because they had to report the case to the attorney general. Luckily the officer was nice and didn't see any harm in it since I gave it all back and no intention to do any harm was done nor did I use the brand to profit from. Once I read that "3 years behind bars" I was scared shitless for a week before I went to the police.

I got called a thief from people that forgot to renew and a cybersquatter and all but that all didn't matter because I was none of that. They forgot to renew. Period. They just had to realize and accept it.

Yet in this United Nations case, there is where I got smacked because unfortunately this ORG has their offices everywhere.
