Don't listen to anyone else. Talk to an attorney get their professional opinion. You have 20 days to answer their complaint otherwise they're file for a default judgment where they pretty much make up a number at what you owe them.
Listen to your attorney. Do not contact their attorney and certainly do not admit any wrongdoing. If it was me, I'd take off the RSS feed immediately. If they filed a lawsuit, they're looking for $10,000+
Because it costs $350 to file the complaint, a deposit of $3,000 for the claim and some other random fees.
95% of cases settle. Litigation is just too expensive.

Man that sucks bro and I got mad sympathy for ya. Sounds like you did the right thing getting a lawyer. The system is not set up for you to be able to defend yourself. Hopefully your attorney can resolve this without too much expense. Keep us posted on what happens, I for one am very interested in how this all turns out.

What a joke. If there site is crap like you say and it's not getting much traffic they are not going to have much to show for "damages". Also, if they did not report you to dmca or at least send you cease and desist letter than the it's pretty transparent that their only intentions are to make some money. After reading all of these kinds of cases online, I think they would be extremely lucky to even squeeze even 5k out of you if they manage to win the case.
I also don't even see how it's possible to be served by just leaving papers at your house. That's bullsh*t.

Here's some info about getting your cached site removed. I would at least give it a try. You never know what they are going try to show as evidence.

Please by all means get an attorney but do everything in your power not to pay for it. You are in college, if there is a law school in your college I suggest e-mailing professors. You should also contact the school newspaper, bring some attention to your situation, this is newsworthy stuff here, they will be interested. This is a case you can definitely win because you can prove you were unaware of any infringement and no DCMA was filed. Additionally they will need to prove that you did actual damage to their brand. I bet you a law student would LOVE to have this on his resume, I would even bet a professor would be willing to put a group of his students on your case for educational purposes. Just my 2 cents, anyway goodluck!
