Copycat strategy

Someone I know has a very successful niche website by simply copying every aspect of another website.

Except for the brand (logo, name etc.) and the fact that he rewrote the content to make it unique, he literally copied everything. The category structure, the content, the onsite SEO, as much of the offsite SEO as possible.....everything.

This guy is doing very well for himself and he literally just copied another website's strategy in every way. I don't know if this is something other people already knew or what, but my mind is blown by the simplicity of what he's done and how well it worked for him.

Is this a strategy that can be applied by anyone, or did this guy get lucky somehow?

I dont see why it wouldn't work. Of course we all copy aspects of other designs and good selling products. My best youtube animation came from a well known meme, I just piggy backed on. Wouldn't have had the channel popularity starting again if it wasn't for that.

Thing is, once you occupy the same space, then you are only left only to go beyond, if you want to improve, so from there in you make it your own, just don't complain when they do it back to you! :D

Copying everything from another successful website might work for a while, but it's not a guaranteed or ethical strategy for long-term success. Instead of copying, create your own stuff, make it good, and be fair – that's a better and more reliable path for success
 
I thought about doing that but then was worried about penalty.

Worth automation probably.
