So my website was hit by one of the Google updates and I lost all my ranking positions, I am in the process of creating my new website but was wondering, If i was to copy some of the old content from my previous website could google pick up on that and punish my new site?

    Thanks for the help guys!

Just take down the site and wait for google to deindex and cancel cache copy.it is impossible for google to save a copy of all sites!

It's duplicate content anyways, so don't do it.
Those paragraphs that you copied can be removed, if they're not indexed yet, however I'm certain it's not going to make a difference.

Hire someone to rewrite your site so you won't have any problem

I would deindex old site, wait few days and then throw old content to the new domain.
