Cool Tech in Personal Health

I'm T1D since 99, not that new, just late to the closed loop pumps. I got a Medtronic Minimed 780G with the Simplera sensors.

Never heared about Kaleido, but we don't have many options here. I see that it connects to the Dexcom sensor, do you have it as well? Is it a closed loop setup?

Overall the % of T1D people on the BHW staff is statistically insane lol...

wow i just looked at this. gone are the days when people had to inject their abdomens with insulin manually. i saw a friend using glucose monitors stuck to their arms, but this closed loop system is on another level of high tech! wish they could create these to be way smaller than they are though.

how is your use of Simplera sensors? do they really stick for 7 days as advertised? or they fall off earlier? have you used them while swimming or is that contra-indicated?
It never fell for me, but I rarely ever has a sensor falling (used the Libre 2 before). I heared about some stickers you can put of top of sensors to prevent them from falling, but never tries any of them.

Which sensor you use with Medtronic Minimed 780G ? Minimed Guardian 4 ? and if you don't mind how much is the cost ?
I'm searching for the total cost to see if we can afford and import one for my mom. thanks

Thank you.
I have health insurance, but I get these from the public healthcare everybody have here.
You're lucky it's covered by your insurance in your country.

I sent the link of the Medtronic to one of my friends with T2DM who has a monitoring system but it's not CGM. No health insurance coverage for this as well. He asked the supplier, but it was cost prohibitive for him.
My biggest struggle with the loop is that it requires a hands-off approach and patience, and let's say say that I'm not known for having tons of patience and waiting for things to happen on their own.
LOL. I mean you can reframe your mind to look at it as your "new" pancreas which secretes insulin in response to sugar spikes. Isn't that way cool?

Noticed that you're from Israel. Hope it gets peaceful there soon.

Now, before you start typing to tell us about your awesome smart watch that counts steps, measures your pulse and tells the time (impressive), I want this thread to be about something a bit different, and to ask whether or not you or someone else you know is using a life changing piece of technology that is helping with an actual medical problem.

I'm a type 1 diabetic, and recently got an insulin pump that is connected to a blood sugar sensor and adjust my insulin so my blood sugar is adjusted properly without needing to do anything except indicating when I'm about to eat something.

It's not new, even though I got it about two weeks ago. It is 100% life changing, and the pump does a much better job that I used to in keeping my blood sugar balanced, which is most likely translated to a few more years for me here on planet earth.

Anything cool you are using?
dental braces. i never knew that i could chew so much more softly and still eat properly. also it looks better, and i can clean regularly using a floss instead of having to poke a toothpick in every time.

septoplasty and turbinectomy - i never knew i could breathe without exerting extra effort. the regular infections and allergy episodes all went away. initially it was promised only to solve the congestion issue. the allergy and infections were supposed to remain the same

I am not diabetic, but I do know a person who is diabetic and has immensely benefited by eating a lot of sweet potatoes. Do your research about it and wish you better health.

You can, but a pancreas reacts faster with an insulin that works faster. It's nothing against the 780G itself, it's just the limitations of the technology.

See, this is something that diabetics absolutely hate. "I know someone who knows someone who's diabetic and [insert magic here] works and even got them off insulin!"

Unless someone is a necromancer and can resurrect my pancreas, nothing "organic" or "natural" is going to work to get me back to speed. I'm going to rely on lab produced insulin and technology to deliver it the rest of my life since the cure was supposed to come what? 20 or 30 years ago now?

Just give sweet potatoes a chance, why all the negativity??

It's just the most pathetic form of potatoes.

I'll give sweet potatoes a chance if you give cinnamon celery water a chance... (yes, apparently that will cure us)

Come on, I bet you haven't even tried injecting the potato.

Cinnamon in celery water (water that has had chunks of celery in it, like cucumber water).
Who discovered that? Like.. why did anyone even try it?
Someone invaded a T1 group on facebook I was in and was telling us how this worked for her kid... yea, just a little frightening.

Here we have a group that preached to Dr. Bernstein's diet. It's literally a cult, and if someone dares to type the word 'bread' they get a 5-page response with what they should and shouldn't eat.

You're missing the live saving cinnamon. Cinnamon fixes everything. If it doesn't, then it's apple cider vinegar.

Oh yea, I've been in one that preached Dr. Bernstein as well. I sort of get along with them since I tend to keto (very dirty keto, just enough to keep inflammation and swelling of another condition at bay) but I learned to just not talk about it. At least those guys don't tell me I'm wrong for taking NPH as my basal if I have to inject. LOL

NPH? Wow.. how does that work for you with a pump?
I never heared of anyone using a long lasting insulin with a pump..

Before I got my first pump I used Lantus.

No, but if I have to be off the pump that's what I use. The long acting basals don't work for me.
