It's not about what content they offer. The ranking benefits for sharing content on a fake G+ account just for the sake of getting social signals is huge.

I would argue about the benefits, but each and his own experience.
As for sharing, nothing beats syndication. Even front page share button. :)
 
As I see it, The world's most expensive real estate is Google.com's homepage and them granting more than a pixel of that space for a social feature means they're after something. Most of us overlook it as simply a failed social network, but we gotta find a way to leverage all those people's activities, sharing stuffs on their G+ and make the best use of it for our benefits.

Apart from SEO benefits, I feel G+ as a social networking site is growing up and also google is desperately trying to make its users use G+
 
google forgot that his social network created mostly for bots =)

and the good news is, It's not browser-specific. :) You can access that feature in your favorite browser as long as you logged into your Google account. I just tested it on Firefox and it popped up after I logged into my Google account.
