Hi,

I have managed to rank high for some pretty competetive brand keywords and the traffic is coming in, but conversion to actual money has been tough

anyone have a good idea of how to convert traffic for keywords that aren't exactly what your website is.

To give an idea what I mean:

someone types in "coca-cola," or "coca-cola review." And you manage to come up second in google for this. but your site doesn't sell coca cola, you sell Pepsi, or RC-Cola or maybe beer or sprite instead.

I know its not totally related to blackhat seo, but we're always talking about getting traffic, but in the end of the day, if you get traffic for high ranking keywords but ppl are bouncing then who cares? I thought someone would be creative here and maybe come up with something good or maybe someone has something similar going on for them.

Thanks!

Mcaorg,

It is incredibly difficult to convert traffic that was not looking for what you are offering. If you are ranking for keywords that have nothing to do with your website/product/service/niche, then you are not going to be very successful. The process a user goes through from the start of entering their query into a search engine and finally converting on a website is very delicate and must be managed all along the way. This includes providing relevant information at each phase of the process. If a user gets to your site and doesn't see what they are looking for, they leave. If you want to convert traffic for the keywords you are targeting, make sure your site and what you are selling is about those keywords, otherwise I would not target them.

I highly recommend this books if you have never read it before,

Hope that answers your question,

hi Shawn

thanks for the informative reply.

Its not that the user is looking for Gold earings, and I am offering televisions and pots and pans.

I'm talking about targeting competitor brands and converting that customer to a different brand. It's like ranking for a columbia jacket, but the user gets to a padagonia page where it talks about how padagonia is better than columbia jackets? You get my drift?
