Converting Live streaming into VOD?

Many users , Actually Interested in live to vod. The easiest way I found to handle Live to VOD is using a platform that automatically records your live streams and makes them available as on demand content right after. There are many platforms like VPlayed, Mux are great for this. You don't need to manually upload anything because they handle the video's recording, encoding, and storage. Just make sure you have a solid CDN and some fundamental security, like DRM, in place, particularly if you intend to restrict access or monetize.

If you want to record live videos you can use screen recorder, OBS studio
you can't directly download since the videos are encrypted

honestly screen recording is the worst way to do it, you lose quality and its all manual. the recording should happen at the ingest/packaging layer not on your screen.

if you're already on aws, MediaLive + MediaPackage has a live-to-vod harvest job that basically pulls a time window from the live segments and spits out a vod asset automatically when the stream ends. Mux does similar out the box, you just flag the asset to persist and it becomes on-demand right after. Cloudflare Stream too if you want something cheaper.

the part people always forget is trimming... your live stream usually has 10-15 min of dead air before you actually go live, so if you just auto-archive raw you end up with vods that start with a "starting soon" screen. worth setting up a trigger on actual stream start/stop or a lambda that clips the dead ends.

also auto thumbnail + title gets messy at scale, so if you're doing volume think about that early. what platform are you ingesting on right now? kinda changes the answer

Many platforms use services like AWS MediaLive + MediaConvert, Mux, Cloudflare Stream, or Wowza to automate this process, reducing manual work while making the VOD available shortly after the live stream ends.
