Office 2010 has the option, I don't see any reason to use other apps

I used to convert 100's of doc's to pdf's daily at the company I worked for. I just used CutePDF writer. It's free, NOT a virus (you can run a virustotal scan on it) and super simple. You just click print and select cutepdf as your printer.

Yes. Just go to "Save As" and click the dropdown menu. PDF is on there

Open Office does this the easiest IMHO.

Just a quick addition to all the other solutions -- PrimoPDF -- I believe it is free as well.. Or at least it was when we were building some desktops here at work. It places an icon on the desktop, which allowed users to drag the word document over the desktop icon and convert.
