I have lived off reasonably (indian) priced content writing in the past. Thereafter, I ventured into other lines of trade. I decided to take a break and do some writing. Is it worth pursuing, especially in times of AI generated automated content? Is content writing still as vibrant as two years ago?

It's most definitely not. But there's still demand for human edited / fact checked AI content. No matter how advanced, AI still hallucinates a lot so there's value in a human going through the information it spits.

There's definitely a market for it still. Much demand are looking for human-written content as AI tends to rate poorly on Google algorithms. It's also the reason there are a lot of AI detectors because some are really looking for original content rather than AI-generated.
 
Yes, Since with the recent google update (People are saying google penalized AI generated content website) it might be time for you to shine again and grab the opportunity.
 
AI still has a long way to go , in near future people look for natural things not those built by AI
