There's something I've been curious about since I started doing this SEO stuff: Is it best to update your content, then wait for Google to index it again, then update it again, then wait for them to index, etc, or are updates at any time fine?

Keep posting to the site on a "somewhat" regular basisi.

If its a blog, you could post 1 article a day for a week, then drop back to 1 article every 2-3 days, and by the end of the month only be doing 2-4 articles a month.

This is the technique that has worked well for me.

I keep on posting on a regulat basisi before even the Search engine bots arrive. That way they are used to seeing regular content on the site.

Hope this helps

There are no rules here- the logic is to keep adding fresh, unique content on your site on a regular basis. Personally, I do it once every week and by that time the previous week's content is already indexed. But you certainly don't need to wait till it gets indexed for fresh posting. In any case, you can always use some content indexing techniques to speed up the process if required.
