whats the best between these:

1. creating a large number of pages targeting a list of keywords generated by the GAKT using their pre/suffixes to map structure (the longer the tail the deeper the link)

or

2. creating a small site with a few pages targeting a lot of keywords

take it as read that all of the content is high quality.

also would your broaden the topics covered by switching off the 'keywords that closely match my search' ? and built those out too (could be a massive site)

In my experience small page websites will never work as good as bigger/authority websites ranking wise.

If you managed to get 50+ long tail keywords that could bring in visitors I would have a article section outside the selling point of the website with 500+ word articles targeting these long tails.

Keep in mind that google loves it when you update your website on a regulair basis and writing about your niche in general will help you rank even better.

For your first point it is good to post minimum 3-4 posts per week of at least 500 words and keyword rich content is must.
for second thing if you focus on too many keywords,you cant make enough revenue with it .Suppose for example if you are displaying adsense then it cant display good cpc ads because the robots dont know which ads to deliver properly falling in cpc value.Same way applied to private advertising too

Quality content is the king. Avoid trying your different things because they say "Jack of all trades but master of none. Try minimizing your keywords and focusing on a particular niche because in the long run it' s going to pay you big time.

There are different school of thoughts but i believe that there should be atleast one post per day and if you will use images inside your post,you are definitely feel the difference.

If you base your MNS on 10 to 12 quality articles promoting 4-5 keywords, that should be sufficient. If you want more, you could take the extra step of manually rewriting each one 2 times, to have 30-36 articles total, and drip the rewrites in over a couple of months. The result will be a MNS that isn't a tiny site, and has a track record of 'new' content. If all 5 keywords are of roughly equal strength, say 5000 exact searches/mo, with a CPC of $1-2 for Adsense purposes, the keywords should reinforce each other for ranking and traffic purposes.
