Hey mates,

I've been searching the forum and I've only found answers to this from 2011 and older, and since then Google has changed a bit, hasn't it?

Anyways,

I just wondered about how content locks affect the ranking of a site in googles search engine?

Let's say that I have a site where the content lock comes up instantly. That site won't rank in google? How about if I extend the content lock popup time with a few seconds, does google notice this while crawling? How about if I put a button where users click and the content lock pops up. Does this affect the ranking?

Also, if the things above don't work, what if I add a new page with content lock...would google notice that and take it in consideration when ranking the site?

Thanks in advance, I'm a little newbie with rankings and seo etc. etc. :)

take in mind that G bots can't know if your site is content locked or no.. some people say that when a manual visits your site (if its gets visited at all) they can flag your site and de-rank it because of the content lockers.. but thats just what people say.. People are racking up on cash with content lockers, so i doubt there's any connection with ranks at all

Yeah, I read post from some people that said that content locks can be seen by google, but then again I've seen many sites ranked #1 with content locks as soon as you enter the site..

Thanks :)

EDIT: For example check the site that's ranked first for "Simcity 5 download". It has a cl as soon as you enter the site...

well, you know.. they will tell you that to discourage you.. otherwise you are competition for them...

the owner of that simcity site apparently is a customer of mine and using my Mighty Content Locker software :)

Haha, what a coincidence. :D And yeah, that might be true. (: I guess I'll have to test myself to be 100% sure.

Yes it can probably decrease your ranking..How? Well, your visitors will buzz off from your site immediately and your bounce rate will be too high which inturn will affect your ranking somehow. But that's not even recommended as it affects the user experience. What you can do is let them click on Download Button at the bottom of the page and redirect them to a seperate page which is not indexed in google search and content lock that. That's much better I feel than splashing content locker on the face

about the bounce rate, thats only if you use GA on your site

Eh no. GA is made only for our reference. Google has systems in place(No brainer) and I am sure they use bounce rate as well to know about the quality of a site. That's pretty much common sense.

Still, you can test it out OP and see for yourself if the CL really hurts the ranking indirectly

I can't agree that G will know my bounce without GA, the other way for them to track that is if the uset came from G to my site and exited from my site to G.. there's no other way, otherwise you will tell me G knows what color are my pants right now

They can track the time during which the visitor clicked on the search result and the time when they came back by clicking the "Back" button in the browser. So yes, they can calculate the bounce rate on that basis and no they can't track the color or your pant's ..lol :p

yeah, thats what i said as well... but take in mind that huge percent of the people simply hit close tab or whole browser window and don't use back button..

That's what I was gona say, I've read it before.

I believe bots can see if your site locked or not, Why I say this? add a locker to blogger/blogspot and see what happens.

well, i highly doubt that their bots that crawl the web analyze that. They probably use custom bot specifically for blogger to keep it clean. And they probably just use detection of certain javascript functions. For example my Mighty Content Locker embed code you put on your pages is obfuscated, and i highly doubt they will do javascript processing de-obfuscation.. of every page crawled.. thats processor time and is useless to them.. However don't get me wrong i don't recommend using content lockers on blogger!
