Or is it?
I would like to give you an example. Have you heard of Niches In A Box? It is a membership service where you get a new "out of the box" website a month for about $100. http://www.nichesinabox.com/
Are they any good? OMG yes. You have never seen anything like them. Hundreds of original articles, silo structure, self growing with new articles added over time. A mailing list. Streaming video sales pitch. An autoresponder. An ebook to sell. Ads everywhere including Amazon, Chitica, Searchfeed etc. They even give you a Wordpress template and a batch of articles to post to that! Actually it isn't a site but 15 different sites that can be "siloed" on different subdomains.
Here is one I found by Googling a known phrase. http://myemploymentzone.net/
Good does not begin to describe it! You or I couldn't make a site like that if we spent the next year working on it. It is seriously professional.
Before you think I am pimping the program let me say I did try it briefly.
The members forum was filled with people bitching that they weren't making any money and worse still that Google was completely banning their sites.
The pages are "original" because there enough snippets and rss on the page to make them unique.
Why is this? I don't know. They were trying to promote them. Perhaps if you Xrumered and trackback spammed the hell out of them it would be a different story.
I'm only saying this to show that just because you have a better mousetrap the world won't necessarily beat a path to your door.
Backlinks beat content.
