If your song is used in Youtube Shorts

Can you claim content ID on it

Has anyone tried it before?

The song has to be used for more than 30 seconds. I wouldn't recommend it since the rates are trash for short-form content especially with CID

If the creator used your song from the official Shorts Audio Library, you cannot claim content ID. These songs are specifically licensed for use in shorts without manual claiming. But if the creator uploaded your song manually, you can claim the content ID.
