Content Freshnes

Hi,

I am a bit frustrated. Everybody is talking about the "freshnes update" and that it is so important for G. I started to give my 8 year old website fresh content. I rewrote 300-400 word articles and made 2000 words out of them. Each keyword dropped after that. Lets say the keyword was on #4 and after refresh it was on #10. It took about 2 months to come back to #4 again. And there it is, stuck on #4 for a few weeks now. So, in fact, it seems like it does not matter if your content is fresh, long etc. It´s in the mobile phone niche, so, actually fresh content is a must there.

Now I did the same again with an website I bought 3 weeks ago. I completely rewrote the content. Home page was 1000 words. Now it is HQ 3000 words. The main kw was on #29 as I bought that domain. I pointed 1 PBN link to it and it jumped on #19. I thought "great, give it fresh nice content". I even deoptimized the bad overoptimized onpage SEO. Now after that it dropped back to #25.

I have a feeling that it is stuck in a filter now. Why? Because I changed the title a tiny bit and did an reindexation in the WMT. Shortly after that the site was on #19 again. But 2 minutes later it is back on #25. Sounds like a filter doesn´t it?

Seems like you're putting too much emphasis on "freshness" and forgetting about the simple facts of SEO, which is backlinks = everything.

If you have re-written the old content and everything is all nicely done now, then put a bit more effort into getting some decent links and see what happens. Also if you haven't touched the site in a long time and then all of a sudden you start making changes, adding content, building backlinks, then it will naturally jump around the SERPs for a few weeks - no surprises there.

even thou people and many articles around keep saying Keywords density ain't important. But i say fresh content well optimized for Bot as well as reader will do some wonder bro.

Are you tracking user stats? Are you getting a shit load of back-clicks? If you re-write a 200 word article into a 2,000 article I'm guessing the quality of the content is pretty bad. And IF that is the case visitors won't have a very high average time on the page and you'll see a ton of back-clicks... all of which sinks your rank over time, just as you've described. You could test this by fixing the content to be more useful/engaging on one of the pages and see if it helps the visitor stats... and then the rank. And if you aren't monitoring time/bounces then you should be.

Why would the quality of the content would become bad if I write a 2K article? That does not make any sense. And as we know, google doesn´t give a shit about content quality. At least here in Germany, the most sites in top10 (my niche) have very very low quality content. Most of it reads like a 7 year old kid wrote that stuff.

I think he meant that if the topic was covered in 200 words before there is probably a lot of fluff to bring it up to 2000.

The 7 year old kid stuff definitely still works in some niches, but you may just need to be patient. I've fixed up a few of my sites recently too and they had a significant drop before steadily increasing.

I think you would have given more concentration of Doing Fresh articles without stuffing keywords and without pushing them as a promotional articles. Content alone is not an element of getting Ranking, its even very important to get Backlinks from Quality Blogs. SEO friendly articles on Quality guest blogs or High DA blogs would work more than what you are expecting. Do some keyword analysis to know which are the keywords to be taken care on.

make sure the content is good quality, and I'd say split the 3000 words into three different content pages and interlink, then build links to each.

My question is, is it even possible to change a topic of a 2 years old website? Its not a complete change but a change in keywords. Lets say the website was optimized for "buy screwdriver". Since "buy" does not rank anymore in google top 10 (they only rank amazon, ebay and other shops here in Germany for "buy"), I rewrote the complete home page to "review screwdriver".

Google is still updating, sometimes google reviews not only on content, sorry my english not good
