Niche is still the main driver because it defines your audience and positioning.
Format helps with reach and engagement, but without a clear niche, it’s harder to build consistent growth.

Niche still sets the ceiling, but format often decides who actually wins inside that niche. In competitive spaces, everyone targets similar keywords, so structure, depth, UX, and how well you satisfy intent can be the real differentiator. A weak niche with huge demand won’t rank without authority, but in a solid niche, the right format can absolutely outperform stronger domains.

In my opinion, both are important. Identifying the niche will make it easier to reach your target audiences, while content formatting will help you attract and retain them.
