Let's say I have a site that sells something seasonally. Let's say "Christmas decorations" is my main keyword.

Should I create a new article every year:


Christmas decorations for 2014
Christmas decorations for 2015
Christmas decorations for 2015

And so forth? or should I have an article called "Christmas decorations" and update it every year (in which case the url would not change but the title would)

Change the title and update the article every year. No need to create new articles for each new year.

The most effective way is, have it both in Title and in URL and put a site wide link and point it to the new url with Christmas decorations for 2014 as anchor text. Most of the sites selling seasonal items usually go for new domain like Christmasdecorations2014.com

I think no need to create a new article every year. You can update your article with valuable information. As you said must change the title of your article.
