Contacting webmasters to get a link

So I was gonna sit down tonight and contact a whole bunch of webmasters in my niche (not competitors, but in my niche), and ask for a link.

Now, my site does use a pretty clean theme, but does have two Adsense blocks that pretty much dominate the page (it's the first thing most people will see when they come to my site).

I mean, my site has a LOT of content, it's a great resource, one of the best in the niche. But I'm curious, based on your experience/knowledge, do you think that this sort of ad placement could be a potential red flag and cause them to NOT want to give me a link on their site?

I doubt just asking for a link will work that well but let me know if it does, I always found if I offered value it helped, like write an article for them or do some research always went along way.

Well, a lot of these sites I'm looking at have a page called "Resources" or something along those lines. And on that page they have links to informational sites in the niche (like mine).

But I see where you're coming from.

Offering to do a guest post is another option you should consider. Link exchanges still work with some web owners as they may not be interested in montizing their site. These types of site owners are just happy to have the prestige of being on the net.

Think "Sally's Hair Salon". Sally's nipples get hard just over the fact she has a web site. Offer her a link exchange and explain that it will get more people to visit her site. That will make her panties moist.

True! And then I can just make a page on my site called resources, and add a nofollow link to their site?

You should feel good if even one person replies back to you. I did that once to 100+ sites and did not get one response back ticked me off.

you will get links faster if you just look for blogs in your niche and get backlinks yourself, or pay for context links on high pr blogs

You have to consider offering a good backlink to obtain a good backlink.
If your website have lot of content scrape whois info about website talking about the same subject and make a backlink offer, they ll be glad to make backlink exchange.

It s better to have at less 2 differents websites to promote each other and stay under radar.

You need to collect at least 1000 emails to have enought answer.

For this task link assistant is quite good.

This does work. If your doing reciprocal you need to give them a follow link though, or they will Remove your link.

Even though the links are two way I've had good success doing this, sometimes I've ended up with really authoritative links as well

If you want one way links then the alternative as said above is to offer an article or something similar - most webmasters will go for that.

In my experience the key point is to be personable - don't send out a generic email - I get them all the time and just delete them.
Send a personal email to each site and you'll get a much higher response rate.

Or you could use your efforts by asking political sites with .gov to help a down an out with a link to help suppliment your income. State it could be in an obscure part of their site.

Most sites who are serious about there business, you will see, won't have ads on the site. I would suggest to remove your ads for a extended amount of time to get the backlinks you are making an effort to obtain.

I just got my worker to email about 70 websites in my niche, and ask for a link, in return they would get a link from my site, which is a PR5. Probably about 5 responded, 1 said yes. So if they aren't going to do it for a PR5, they probably won't do it for fun.

On to a rant.

This is where Google fucked up the search engines. They created a world where no one wants to link to anyone, no one wants to give anyone a bump in the rankings, no one wants to help a competitor out. Natural links are what they want, but no one wants to give any fucking links. The only way you get a link is if your site looks like a research site, like wiki, that is non profit.

Give it a try, but for me it never really worked well. Maybe I just sucked at it, but I really wrote polite mails and offered them a link in exchange (and no I didn't offered a PR 0 link and expected to get a PR7).
But most people didn't even replied to my mail. Others didn't understand what a link exchange is, so I needed to spend extra time to explain it to them....only to never hear again from them after I spend time to explain it to them for free.
What an utter waste of time that all was

I'm not doing link exchange or something like this anymore at all today. There are more then enough sources for free links, or I just buy some.
