Constantly fluctuating rankings?

I have some keywords that seem to never sit still in google. They fluctuate wildly from first page (lately position 10 or so) to second page on a daily basis. I have been building some backlinks here and there but this has been a month of this constant fluctuating fuckery. It's literally the difference of like 1k extra a month or more if I can get the damn keywords to stick. I am well aware of the google dance but is it normal to last for months or longer? Anyone had experiences like this? It's like google is juking me on purpose.

some of my sites still change positions for some keywords: top10 today, not in top100 tomorrow, top10 on 3rd day, over and over again.
chaos in serps means more $$$ from adwords, so... :)
 
For the past two weeks before yesterday things had settled down. But yesterday, Oct. 20th the fluctuations began again, on the positive, it stopped today and slowly but surely everything is getting back to normal. Overall throughout mid September and October, I have noticed that only keywords to which I build a lot of links fluctuated the most. I have some post with few link and exact anchor text (like 100%) that have not been affected at all. So I would imagine that the volatility depends on how many links Penguin has to evaluate. Also, I guess that there must be a two step process, once the links are given a value or devalued by Penguin that info is being passed to 'another' part on google algo that makes ranking adjustments. I based this assumption on what I've read about Penguin thus far. It only evaluates links and does not make any adjustments to ranking. But I could be wrong.
 
For my authority sites that are a few years old I don't see any fluctations at all. But for my newer sites less then a year old I see the same as you, one day first page another day 3page and so on.

I think he is well aware of what the Google dance is. This seems something different that I have noticed the past month or so. The websites do not sit, they are constantly moving several times a day. Again, not the Google dance where you website bounces around for several days, they just do not stop moving.

Completely agree with you and I am seeing the same thing.

I have one site, expired domain however I completely rebuilt it with the same content, sites at around #15, then it'll be #18 then somewhere on the 3rd page.

Then I have sites, around two month old that are moving everywhere. I just sent some PBN links to one site and it is gone, nowhere to be seen at all. Lets wait and see.
 
Same here. I only have one site and I'm still learning, so I thought I was the only one and that I was doing everything wrong. It's kinda hard to know exactly if what you're doing is effective when the rankings keep changing on a daily basis. Do you think this is something that will last or that it will eventually stop and get back to normal, the way it used to be a few weeks ago?

I hope that it will stop and come back to normal. But remember, Penguin is 'live' so they can tweak or change it anytime. Moreover, since it is live, they said that there will be NO future announcements on updates or changes to Penguin.

My website also had fluctuated like you,
Sometimes... some of my new content was on #56 and will gone on nowhere..

it happened on anothers content, but not significanly changing. like from #9 to #11 and to #10 ...

and i don't know what is really mean
 
it's been happening since Google made the core updates in real time.More than a half of the month facing this sh** dance of G.

Let's see when it's get settled.
 
Had a KW word with 27k searches bouncing around from #11 - #35 - #18 and now apparently it's bouncing around in the 40s and 50s. Pretty annoying, seems to be too chaotic for the typical Google dance
 
The first top 10 websites don't seem to fluctuate. It looks like mine is the only one that can't stay in the same spot for long. Am I the only one who experiences that?
 
Yup, it's not the usual Google Dance that we know. Or maybe this is just new Google Dance. Don't really know. I have newer sites as well and they are all doing this. Jumping up and down on the serps, pretty annoying. I'm still building links, trying to make everything look good. Other than that, don't know what to do then wait.

The keywords I am tracking the top five positions seem to bounce around between themselves.

I've noticed similar but the top ten results for a few keywords I'm watching rarely drop off the first page.

Seems next to impossible to hit the first page without spending a fortune on adwords, wonder if that's why the top ten never change???

Conspiracy?
 
This has been happening to one of my sites for over 1 year. I do not think it has anything to do with any updates. My theory is that it has to do with your competition. From my local niche and investigating my competition, I see they are highly active in SEO also. My logical explanation is that I have almost a dozen competitors constantly shooting backlinks in a race to the top. This is my simplest explanation. If this is the case, you can expect that you will never get a stable ranking as long as you have a large number of competitors also doing SEO.
 
I've been saying this for a while : Google will fluctuate SERPs on purpose to blur trackers and make it harder to A/B test. They've been doing this for a while now.

What you see is exactly what they want you to see and feel : confused.

To stabilize a site you need to work on authority. High authority domains stay up at the top. Which in my opinion is one of Google's weaknesses, the same shops, the same sites, are at the top for 70% of certain searches (Amazon,Wikipedia,Expedia and so on - big spenders).
