NO, in this case "dumbbell workouts" is level up keyword, for which mentioned site have high PageRank, in other words - authority.
Because word "hard" is repeated 13x on page, Google algorithm consider it that user will find the answer for mentioned query "hard dumbbell workouts"

As I have mentioned earlier, you should check first backlinks for partial/exact anchor text.
If there is no backlinks, then next important thing is the title.

Such compare will give you much more reliable informations, that comparing competition by DA / DR - which is completely useless in this case.
However, a lot of beginners use it and as the result - they are not able to proper rate their chance in given keyword.

There is nothing wrong with those keywords, buddy. Most keywords, low competition or not, will still show up in serps. The thing is, most of the websites that show up won't be optimised for that particular keyword.

1) If competitor has no title but has a lot backlinks to page without "hard dumbbell workout" anchor? Just anchor like "read more", "click here"
2) Or he has backlinks to page with anchor "dumbbell workout". Or anchor "dumbbell", or "weigth workout" or "dumbbell exercises"?

In that case is keyword "hard dumbbell workout" low competitive?

As I said, you should analyze whole first Google page results, not only single page.
Because you should consider, that some PBN's are hidden from backlinks tools, such Majestic / Ahrefs.

Only in this way can you get a reliable picture of the situation for a given keyword.

Yes, you'll find a lot of long tail keywords.
But please remember, if part of such keywords will exists in anchor text - it will minimize your chance to reach first Google page.

Hi @Yee

With naked (or empty) anchor text, Google creating "virtual" anchor text, base on text around the link,
closest subtitles such h2, linking page title, linking page anchor text etc.

When you'll check any linking page - you'll see how much clever and accurate is this solution.
So, you should consider it, when some naked backlinks coming to site.

Another good rule of thumb would be that if search results for a keyword are pretty shitty (a.k.a almost useless content or pages that don't really answer to people's question), it's a good chance that the competition is low.

Of course, + everything that the guys said above

I always following with Ahrefs metrics for keyword research. 10-15 would be enough for me to know that this is an easy keyword. Just checking how many backlinks my competitors on first page have and their DA

What you suggest. If I looking for key "should i eat before or after working out" I see there are competition titles:

Should You Eat Before or After Working Out (Here: You instead I)
Is it better to eat a meal before or after I workout (Here is the key meal)
Should I Workout On An Empty Stomach (Here is the key Empty Stomach)
Is It Better to Eat Before or After a Workout to Lose Weight (Here is the key Is it Better instead Should I eat).

These titles don't include exact match phrase "should i eat before or after working out" but they have the same search intend. How to analyze such keywords? Are they competitive keywords?

It is the same about keys:
is it bad to eat before a workout
should i workout before or after dinner
is it better to exercise before or after dinner
is it better to workout before or after you eat
