I have a co.uk domain I purchased a month ago that has just started ranking. However, it's only ranking in google.co.uk and I want to promote in the US too. I looked for the .com domain, however, it was purchased by someone a long time ago. There is however a .US version of the domain available.

Can anybody offer some advise here, if I get the .US domain and do a re-direct to the .co.uk domain. Will this help me to get indexed for google.com as well ?

thoughts on this please

I don't think it would help get indexed in the U.S. Google.

I would keep the co.uk domain for the UK site and get a new website hosted for the .us version. On the UK site have a link to the USA version which is the same website basically but on a totally different hosted.

I have some sites that use .com and .ca and .fr and .co.uk domains on separate hosts. They are all branded the same but use specific language and reference to the particular country.

I'm not sure just redirecting or parking the .us domain on your existing site would help.

If you want UK and US (basically worldwide traffic) then get a different .com (slightly different name?) or the .net or .org and 301 the .co.uk to that new domain.
