After reading so much about penguin and panda update I am completely confused of what to do in order to build links, all I am doing these days is engaging in forums, where my profile links to the main site, no keywords used what so ever.

Please tell me what all activities to indulge in link building

I have mobile technology niche and finding good guest blogs is another arduous task :( which I have been indulged in

I just saw someone offering up a whole free list of .edu's That's a cheap and easy one.

find authority places to plug your link at, like good forums, blogs, wikis and etc.. especially ones with "do follow" and low OBL

If person read too much of information then at the end, he will get confused :)

So Don't confuse by reading as many articles on many sites -> Just read few on searchengineland or seomoz about SEO / linkbuilding / updates or something similar to SEO then work more = success without confusion !

Cheers!
Bart

The best thing which works today is building high quality and diversified backlinks.
If you simply plan to build 50,000 blog comment backlinks from Scrapebox pointing directly to your money site, you won't get anywhere. If you get, it would be for a limited time. You can search for case studies shared at BHW by different established members which know what they are doing to get more information.

Also, read the stickies in the White Hat SEO and Blackhat SEO section since they have got some really cool information which would help you in the long run.

edu list of what buddy forums, comments ?? I think edu days are gone, now you should try to get similar niche links than edu links

@OP: I have a site in this same niche, though my site covers a few other topics as well, I'd be happy to let you do a guest post on my domain. You can have a reasonable sized author box, 1 link in content and 1 link in author box. Please PM me if interested.

See what backlinks your top ranking competitors have. Where are their backlinks coming from? Then try to have backlinks pointing to your domain from those sources as well. Build majority of your backlinks from domains that are at least PR3 and Alexa 200,00-

Forum commenting is quite beneficial in terms of backlinks and traffic, but this is obviously just one of essential SEO activities for creating a solid backlink profile.

As you already mentioned, guest posting is a very effective technique, and this is probably the number one both for getting quality backlinks and establishing niche partnerships.

To me mobile technology sounds as an inspiring topic for reviews, so you can make use of submission of reviews and articles, not on a very large scale though. It is also a working strategy to start a blog with product reviews and industry trends' highlights: you may create backlinks from this blog to your money site as well as drive traffic there.

And since everyone is up to social media today, one has to be active on social media platforms. Although the links from there are no-follow, they will make your backlink profile diverse and add credits to your online reputation.

Also remember to vary anchor text for all backlinks you have. The approximate ratio is 30% exact keyword match and the rest is left for ‘click here', ‘read more', naked URLs and text not related to keywords.

Try to get diverse link sources.. give preference to high quality blogs, forum participation(no-follow - but worthy), engage in social media, get real links, use different and long tail keywords... the niche of source is must..

Don't be confused on anything posted anywhere, try to stick at one knowledge you know and get steps to cope up with it

You need every type of link ...For diversity have a look at this one :

Code:
[TABLE="width: 1062"]
[TR]
   [TD="width: 1062, align: left"]http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/535210-need-link-diversity-see.html[/TD]

[/TABLE]

Be sure to implement relevance and high PR as well when building backlinks. This along with diversity of links/anchor text should get you where you need to be.
