Gift cards are very popular on sites like Amazon and other ecommerce websites. But no crypto exchange is working towards making crypto gift cards popular. Is there any reason why crypto gift cards are not that popular till now?

Maybe because of price fluctuations within short periods. The value of the card could change drastically by the time the recipient uses it.

That can be a unique selling point. Suppose you but a card for $100 and friend redeems it for $ 1000 after one month when price increases.

I guess at the moment it would be difficult in terms of compliance maybe. Although in theory it should be the same as any other gift card but I think because it’s crypto everything is more complicated at the moment.

The closest thing I can think of related to this is a company called Ballet who done something similar to this with a physical card that you could buy and top up, which I believe was designed to be a sort of gift card.

I do think it’s a good idea though and it would be a great people to onboard new people into the world of crypto.

at the end of the day, most people are not using crypto. that's why the gift card concept hasn't been crazy

I think one of the main reasons crypto gift cards haven't gained massive popularity yet is the lack of general understanding and trust in cryptocurrencies. For someone who isn't familiar with crypto, the idea of managing wallets, private keys, or even understanding how to redeem the gift card can feel overwhelming.

Another factor could be the limited use cases—many people don’t know where they can actually spend crypto, so the gift card might seem less practical compared to traditional ones. Also, concerns about volatility might play a role; imagine gifting $50 worth of Bitcoin, and the recipient checks it a week later only to find it's worth $30!

That said, as crypto adoption grows and platforms make things more user-friendly, I can see crypto gift cards becoming much more popular. What do you think would help push them into the mainstream?
