Computer wont boot up

I have an acer desktop computer and when i press the power button, i get nothing at all. No lights, no fans spinning, no noise.

I removed 1 stick of ram and then powered up and the power light comes on and 2 fans start spinning but nothing else.The screen is black.

Any suggestions ?

When you powerup can you here the harddrive spinning and trying to load windows?

I would try and get into the BIOS if you can just power up and press the F1 key repeatedly to see if the BIOS appears. If not move onto the F2 key and do the same and so on with all the Function keys to see if the BIOS appears (note sometimes the BIOS is activated by the DEL key).

If you can get into the BIOS menu, just reset the settings to default and save.

The reason I say this is that when I put different memory in my laptop nothing would work, until I went into the bios and reset to defaults so that it recognized the new memory details. Then everything worked!

Its hard to hear the HD spinning because of the 2 fans spinning although i placed my fingers on the HD and sounds like its humming. I am also not getting any beeps,if this helps.

Also when i try to power off by holding the button down,the computer will not turn off, i have to unplug the machine.

Anyways i will try what you suggested Thanks.

Is the video integrated and if not is the video card seated?

Check nothing has accidently come unlugged, lik a pci card. Check the cpu fan is working correctly. The first thing that you should hear is the pc beep, which will help you diagnose the issue. (search beep codes)

If you don't hear any beeps, its fucked, and needs either a new mb or cpu.

My suggestion, do not do anything if you are not familiar with it.
If it's under warranty period, then go to service center and let them fix it for you.
Or take them to some computer expert and get it fixed.

Do you hear any beep sound when you turn it on. Beep sound indicates that your ram is malfunctioning.

I would test the power supply unit. You can pick up a cheap tester from ebay and then check the voltages.

Remove BIOS battery on motherboard, let it be out for 1 hour or more and then plug it back in and try. This is the most common issue we have with customers computers at our work (IT service). If not that, probably something broken like PCU.
