I just purchased a computer online and wondering if i made the right decision or should i be using a vps?
The computer will be left on all day to run several scripts.
I bought it refurbished for $200, i seen similar specs on vps for around $40 a month.
computer specs:
4gb ram (extendable to 16gb)
750gb hard drive
Intel core 2 duo processor
windows 7

I think computer will be good. You have some good specs and after a few months you already payed the vps more than just your computer. The only bad thing is: You have to pay more for electricity bills I think. The only bad thing I have experienced with VPS is that the pc somtimes restarts :( so good choice

thats pretty $hit PC to be honest, Actually you overpaid a bit for it...
and btw you can get such VPS for less than $10/month, so I wouldnt even waste electricity to run that computer.

Why you say its a shit pc? Where is the vps for $10/month?

Depend on your bandwidth and internet speed. I run GSA on a computer.

I5 3.4 GHZ 8 GB RAM. 500MBPS Unlimited bandwidth.

Had no major issue so far.

Your processor is old. You could have done that on a VPS with unlimited bandwidth. Try CheapWindowsVPS.com

You should see my spare computer im running now, its a windows xp with a pentium 4 processor from what i can tell the intel core 2 duo is much better so im thinking it will be a big improvement.
That site sells the vps for $40 for the same specs so my computer will be paid off in 5 months, and after the 5 months i still have a computer which i can resell if i ever need to.

well VPS would be your best bet, hell you could've got like 20 servers lol, running all the scripts and softwares all day long.

My point was you paid $200 for something that is barely worth $100 in todays market. I was just linking you to a VPS company.

The computer is only part of the equation (core 2 duo will not give you much snap though). Most of the time it's the internet line that sucks. If your provider only allows you a few connections, you got the computer for nothing. These SEO tools are pretty demanding.

I see a lot of people say VPS would have been a better solution. Then again, using a dedicated machine is better than virtual shared resources. Even if the physical machine is weaker in specs.

Nah mate just go with VPS . We live in 21th century where we can inform that there is a thing which is replacing computers xd

Computer is best . computer advanced electronic device that accepts digital ized information.

What about your internet connection, do believe it is going to handle all the load?

Im running on 25mbps, im not worried about my internet it can handle multiple connections.

I Think computer is the best choice. The computer can be easily controlled compared to vps.It has limited resources.
The computer accepts the digital information.

If you just leave your computer on all day every day 24/7, wouldn't this consume a shit ton of electricity as well?

Did you factor that into your costs?

VPS = More powerful but costly
PC = less powerful costs nothing.

Go for the pc.
