computer / network geeks , question inside lol :)

short long story , I have an university computer ( nice cpu/ram bw ... you know ... ) anyway it's barely used so I wanna use it like my home computers ( stuffs like scrapebox and so on ... ) so ... after I lose couple of hours searching on google still confused and with my questions unanswered ...

it's there any way to control the computer ( and to leave some apps running ) on this computer via some kind of '' remote desktop '' app without visible actions into the desktop ? ... I don't wanna colleagues to see I use the computer for this kind of stuffs ... the computer running vista and I can't log in from rdp ...

Sounds like a bad idea! Remote desktop would be your best remote control solution - it locks screen whilst in session (displays only login screen), trouble is you would need access to their router to forward some ports.

Alternative would be logmein - you can cOnfig that to blank screen when your in, but it will be noticeable that logmein is installed.

Otherwise maybe some sort of command line control?

Problem after that is having these things running when your not there and not having them visible to anyone on site - I think that would be your main problem!

Unfortunately, it's not possible to completely hide your actions while using a machine through any remote desktop software/protocol. Your outside connection will be visible through any simple network analysis. They can see the IP connecting and the applications being ran/used in the background. Just keep that in mind.

There are a ton of software options you can use to help set this up. Such as PC Anywhere, RealVNC, UltraVNC and many more. Since you say you cannot connect through RDP, I assume because the port associated with RDP Protocol is blocked? You will need a third party solution that will allow you to connect on a user specific port that is not blocked by your university network. If the machine is Windows Vista, there are limitations in the operating system that prevent multiple concurrent connections into local user accounts. Vista/XP is designed by default to only allow a single user login per machine. You will need to research and find the method to remove this (Access to the local registry is required).

yeah I`ve try myself to use rdp ( tough is easy to deal with it ... ) the ports from the network it's seems to be filtered ... I don't need to '' hide '' something into the computer lol ... actually I use it when I`m there with easy none care what I do with ... just I tough will be nice to hide the screen wile I`m remote since colleagues can be curious ...

Well then j recommend logmein, it's free (well the free version will be fine for the task) and as I said you can specify for the screen to be locked while your logged in - perfect.

+1 for LogMeIn. It can be accessed behind the firewall and does everything you need

You could install an ssh server in the computer and use a program like putty to get in. Not sure if the port is blocked though.
