Computer Hard Drive Question!

I was running out of room on the hard drive of a box which only had a 10 gig hard drive in it, so I installed a second HD of 20 gigs. Using the Windows XP installation tool and procedure, I got it installed OK but am now confused as to how to get the computer to start using it!

The box is pretty useful, with 512 megs. 800 Mhz and I've got some nifty programs installed so I really need it to work.

I am an idea guy, not a real technician although I can do a lot so your help will be greatly appreciated!

You either need to set the old drive as a slave on the first controller or make it the master or slave (if you have a cdrom/dvdrom) on the secondary controller.

Boy, this forum has some strict rules. Understandable.

Go to Expert Village dot com and do a search for "Master or Slave Selection for CD-DVD Hard Drives: How to Install Internal Drives".

it comes up as another drive letter in My Computer
if you want to make it the master drive u need to format an install win xp on it

If you're trying to use it as a secondary storage drive, do like the others have said and make sure you set the jumpers on the back of the drives correctly. Your main drive will be the "master" and the secondary drive will be the "slave". If that doesn't solve the problem, you will need to format the drive to either FAT32 or NTFS.

If it shows in my computer and diskmanager the computer is using it. You'll need to treat it like a folder, in essence and just save stuff there.

Did you buy the 20Gb drive? I didn't even know you could still buy them!

Naw, I'm a cheapskate but good at constructing electronic equipment. I just had a bunch of old hard drives lying around and tested a few until I found a good one. I have four Frankenstein boxes that I built or built up from pieces parts but they do not taste like chicken!
