Completely lost about the "tiers" nub needs help

I've been reading guides and forums, but im still not understanding what people mean by tier 1,2 and 3 links. What exactly do the tiers mean? Is it your main site points to a blog, that you've set to be ?tier 2? and then you promote that blog? How can people promote a tier 2 link if they don't own the link?


Or does it work like this:
moneysite.com is linked to abc123.com(tier 2) then I promote abc123.com? I don't understand this at all?

When you are building backlinks to your money site, these backlinks are Tier 1.
When you are building backlinks to your Tier 1 backlinks (=backlinks to you money site), these backlinks are Tier 2.
When you are building backlinks to your Tier 2 backlinks (=backlinks to your Tier 1 backlinks), these backlinks are Tier 3.

...and so on...

Hello. Newbie here as well. But I believe,if I have been reading right, that it goes something like this.

Moneysite ----> blogs(weebly,blogspot etc)----->Social signals (Fb,Ig,Tumblr etc)------>wiki links,GSA

Of course I may be wrong and I suppose that pattern varies depending on your plan.

I'm sure a more experienced person can give their input too ^^

Draw a big dot on paper. That is your site.

Now draw dots around it, and link each of those dots to your site via a straight line. Those are tier 1.

Now draw dots around the tier 1 dots and link each dot to one tier 1 dot via a straight line. Those new dots are tier 2.

As you may have guessed, the straight lines are links.

I believe he wants clarification on the types of links used in each tier. I've been away from SEO for a few years and I'm only just getting back into it but from my understanding its something like...

Tier 1. High quality manually created web 2.0s / PBN all with contextual links
Tier 2. Social bookmarks / forums / wikis / spun web 2.0s / article sites
Tier 3. Any old rubbish! blog comments / pings

Please correct me if I'm wrong?
