Complete Youtube newb, How to link out from a video

I have a how to website and I recently made my first youtube video for it. I cant seem to insert a link anywhere in the video text. I put a comment in the first spot that links back to my site but I was curious if there was a better way to incorporate it into the video text?

I saw where you can put a link in the actual video but it seems like it only allows a link to another video not a stand alone website.

I am sure this answer is here or somewhere on google but I have not had any luck finding it.

If anyone knows I would love some guidance here,

You are unable to insert a link in the description text? I have never had an issue.

well when I put one in it did not hyperlink it, do i need to do it with html? been awhile, I have gotten pretty lazy with all of the apps/web 2.0/wordpress making everything so easy.

Have you tried to publish it and see if it hyperlinks? I believe it does after publishing but not before while in draft mode.

You know I may not have, I will check that now, thanks for the heads up, I am sure that is prob it.

I did have it published but as kittykut pointed out I forgot the http:// part and YouTube failed to recognize it.

Thanks so much this was the problem! I fixed it and now its linking to my site! In other news just found out my domain had a manual penalty in 2011.

I saw how you did that from a random video I found on a google search. Not what I wanted here but I might use that in the future, great way to drive an audience to your website. At least it seems like it would/could be.
 
Kind of late to the party here.. but you can also link to URLs in your video too. You just have to use annotations. You can use it to link to other Youtube videos/channels, as well as an external website. However, before you can link to an external site you have to add your domain to your Youtube account and verify it. Then you will see the option "associated website" in annotations when adding a link.
 
Honestly, I have never gotten an opportunity to do so. So I am currently on this thread just to get some knowledge which I believe will help me when doing the videos some time to come. It is a good thing that I am able to learn some tips here and there through the help of friends and other members. lets keep sharing and use the opportunity to enlighten each one of us.
 
If your account is new and YouTube suspects your content, you might not link to your destination or got restricted
