Hi,

I've some serious doubts. I'm in the process of creating my first video and it takes a lot of time as I'm learning as I go, I really want to provide something of value. I've spent the last few days reading some threads/comments from the forum and I read mixed opinions about creating compilation videos with narration. Some people say that this kind of videos won't be monetized while others say that it would be.

As I said, it takes a lot of time to create this kind of videos and I don't want to work for weeks, maybe months and never get monetized. Big channels are still releasing videos each week with no problem but I heard that YT is tough with smaller channels.

I was really motivated to start my journey on YT but reading all those comments make my motivation drops big time.

Any insight guys about this particular subject?
Would it be better to buy a channel that is already monetized? Any risk?

Thank you,

The problem with YT now is something called 'reused content'. That's the real killer. It's not copyright. Copyright is easy. They tell you straight out if it's matched or not.

But reused content is vague. There is no way to know what video or what part of the video is considered reused content. Even if you edit it a lot, add a ton of your own value to it, it's ultimately up to the YT algorithm and the YT human reviewer that decides if the video has been edited enough and has enough added value to it to be considered legit and eligible for monetization. This is the dumbest part right now because there is no clear, identifiable rule. I've realized it's just playing with fire. You might get away with most of it for a while but eventually you'll get de-monetized for reused content and never know what was reused content.

I have done a lot of what you said. Most of my videos made money for a few months and then suddenly last month on my payday, instead of receiving a nice big fat deposit into my bank account, I got a message that I was demonetized for reused content and there is no way for me to know which of my videos is the culprit. I would assume it must be the most recent videos I made since they earned me the most money and the most views lately but that's only my assumption. I have no way of knowing exactly which is the dumb part. How am I supposed to correct or improve if they don't even tell you where you made the mistake.

Deleting videos is also bad news. You don't want to delete videos because I heard if you suddenly delete videos with lots of views, your channel will get screwed and you'll never get views and never rank again. So I read that if you have to delete videos, you should only mark them private.

My belief is the only way to comeback from reused content penalty is to just make more videos but make sure they are 100% not reused content. Therefore it should improve your overall averages of the channel to being less on the reused content %.
