Hi all,
in my niche, most competitors are using very similar ad copy (same hooks, same offers).

I tried writing different style ads, but CTR dropped compared to generic ones.

Does it make sense to stand out with unique messaging, or just stick with what’s already working in the market?

Curious what others are doing here.

Use what's already working and adapt it to your offer. Don't copy everything to the letter but follow the structure. That's what i always advise.

you should re-use some keyword or phrase but not all of it.
we will split the budget 80/20.
80 for stable set up.
20 to test new thing.
once you get any ads better, scale it to 80 and continously testing new structure because your competitor also copy yours.

if CTR dropped then maybe the generic ones are just what people expect in your niche so don't ditch them yet. keep the generic headlines as your base and just test 10% of your budget on weird new angles because eventually everyone gets "ad fatigue" and you'll want to be the one with a fresh hook when that happens.

Start with proven angles to stay competitive, then layer uniqueness in delivery, visuals, or slight hook tweaks. Going fully different often tanks CTR because it breaks user expectations. Best play is evolve what works, not replace it entirely.

Honestly, I think it depends, sometimes copying what works is safe, but if you want long-term results, trying new angles can pay off. Maybe test small changes first, like different words or style, not full new ads, see what sticks. Standing out can get attention, but don’t drop CTR too much, mix both.

I started an offline advertising business and realized, you can't always go a different route for some things
If they do it and it working
Just join them

Building on the idea of evolving what works, I've found that tweaking just one element of a proven ad can boost CTR by 15-20% without breaking user expectations. For example, changing the call-to-action from "Sign up now" to "Get instant access" increased conversions by 18% on a campaign I ran last year. Similarly, adding a subtle urgency element, like a countdown timer, can add an extra 5-10% lift without altering the overall ad creative.

Do not copy other advertiser's ad copies word-for-word. Write your own ad copies, do not even use AI. You may use AI to get some idea, but re-write it in your own words.
CTR : Do not go only by CTR ... What are the conversions / sales happening ?
Ensure that the ad headlines and the ad descriptions contain the main keywords in the ad group. And, ofcourse the landing page needs to be tightly relevant to the Google Ads campaign.

Go for it, most people just copy from spy tools so a fresh angle usually gets much better CTR and cheaper clicks.
