Competitor linking my site from porn sites

So someone is linking my business site from porn sites with XXX anchor text, obviously trying to de-rank my site.

Is there anything that can be done? They have targeted a few other businesses in my niche as well.

You could BHW his website. I believe some members here have some nasty ideas :)
 
If that would harm your site, everyone would have done that to their competitors already.

I have the registrants name and email.

Its really annoying because my site really has little to do with horny lesbians and I know a few visitors will be dissapointed.
 
If you don't know his site, you can manually add all of the links into a script that checks the referrer and block anything from getting through, including spiders.

You could also just ignore it. If it were that easy to mess with someone's rankings everyone would do it, but it does add some link power to your site. Write a few articles targeting another keyword and rank that yourself.

So this kind of backlinking wont hurt the rank at all?
 
It will hurt you,but if you don't know who's your competitor you can't do much thing.If you know...well,from hacking his site to doing the same thing his doing to you,but on a bigger scale would be just a small way.
 
I doubt it. If it did, the possibility to abuse this would simply be too big.
 
it will hurt your ranking when Google finds out that you are linking to the very great porn site for ranking.

I wouldn't go that far. If you just let your competitor trash your site then it will hurt it.
So you need to turn this against him. Get some high quality PR backlinks, and an exponential number of random links. I hope you have SB or something for those.

ok mods delete this if this is not allowed. BHW members should be looking out for eachother and I have better things to do then clean this up with sb blasts.

Also edit your thread and code the URLs and replace http with hxxp.
 
Anyone that goes as far as linking their competitors to porn sites is a douche bag. Karma is a real bitch and it always comes back to bite people in the ass.

There's a difference between linking to porn and having porn site link to you. The first one would impact your site because you have control over the content of your own site), the second one is less likely negatively impact your site (because you can't control what other people write about your site).

Don't think it can harm you but it does suck to be linked to porn sites. Especially by another BHW member, lol.
 
Guys, it has been proven again and again and again, that it is possible to harm your competitors(and yourself) with backlinks. There's a case study on it every week, on this forum and on others.

Yet dozens come back with the same statement: "Google would not let someone harm someone else's website. It would be too easy to abuse".

To be clear, backlinks CAN hurt your site. My personal example, I have accidentally done it to myself (site-wide backlink from PR7 site with 100k indexed pages on 5 month old site with 800 backlinks mostly PR5-PR2). Within 24 hours Google had penalized hundreds of keywords which I was tracking. No, after 4 weeks, it has not recovered.

Please stop assuming that "google won't let this happen". It does happen. The links don't get ignored in all cases. In some cases, they hurt you.
