Competitor is clicking my adwords!

I have had a massive increase in my AdWords being clicked with no increase in sales.

Normally the same amount of money I load into the account lasts for 1 month, now it last 2 days!

Is it possible my competitors are clicking my AdWords? Is it possible to get round the google locks to do this! If these guys are doing it to me, should I do it back?

Please advise as I an worrying about this

You can exclude certain sites from your ads postin on. Look at where the increased clicks have come from and exclude that site. Unless it was search. Then you might want to remove that search term for a bit. Id contact google with your concerns as well
 
adwords tracks ip so your competitor must have some automated proxies set up similar to a flag bot
 
A professional griefer can be impossible to detect because he will use US proxies and cycle though 1000's of them to deplete your account in a matter of hours or days. Google I know is reaaaaaalllyyyy slow to respond to these discrepancies if you're a small advertiser, and if you make contact with human consider yourself lucky. So I would disable the campaign, do an audit on the clicks, and try to get a hold of google.
 
If google allows access to the ip's I'd run them and see if most show up as proxies. That's real dirty if your comp did that but payback is a beeyotch :)
 
Ah! This is good news for you. When they click your ads that means they are increasing your CTR :p Think about this way, just limit your daily budget to 20$ and higher your bid price to receive good CTR from your competitor. After a few days you will see your max bid suggestion lower than usual ;) after that, you can stay at that position at a lower bid and block their IPs ;) khekhekhe Enjoy buddy!

This is good money to spend for your CTR and Account History

it could just be that people are clicking your links or your position for some lower converting keywords changed

bigfred, ignore my previous post. I wasn't thinking straight.

What you need to do is contact this guy/girl and ask him to stop it and then offer him a JV opportunity.

If he is interested then ye should merge your 2 websites into 1.

This will split your AdWords costs along with domain hosting and other costs and ye should share keyword research and possibly your mailing lists.

This will strengthen your position in that niche and you will trounce the rest of the competition with your large advertising budget and combined keyword research.

Doesn't get much smarter than this...
 
My two cents:

This happens all the time on Adwords.
The best way to handle is to keep a IP database of anyone who visits your site.

Even if your competitor is loggin in through proxies you can minimize the
clicks by capturing their ip address and make sure your ads are not shown
to ip addresses that you suspect are costing you $.

Believe me, if your competitor is not served your ads....
those fraudulent clicks will be minimized.

I have had to do this many, many times and it works.....

The working principle is "that you can't attack what you can't see!"
