Hello,
a competitor have 4 website in the same niche (he literally dominate the serp), fews points i notice:
- WHOIS in the same name for all sites
- Each website point to each others
- Same niche, same type of articles, he just rewrite articles differently (not spun, but rewrite with another style of writing).
- 2 domains was expired from 2 years ago (in different niche)

I though google penalize this type of montage ? Or it this allow to build different website in the same niche and point to each other ?

Can it's be consider as PBN even if there are public ?

Thank you

Its essentially a link wheel. Google can penalize for it but Google doesn't catch all of them. I have a friend that has about 20 different websites in the same niche all pointing at each other. They have been like this for about 8 years without a penalty. I feel that as long as the sites are legit and providing valuable content google leaves them alone. If you have a site or sites linking to you full of duplicate or spun content you will get penalized.

It works but there is the risk of being caught and penalized just like every other black hat tactic. You just need to weigh the risks verses the reward.

Thank you, so what if a create also 3 website in the same niche, but without linking to each other and with private WHOIS. It will not have the link wheel effect, but do this strategy make sense ? Or can it get penalize by google ?

He is playing with Google, Avoid sharing his sites on forum.

You won't get penalized for having multiple sites in the same niche. The key thing is valuable and original content.

A LOT OF legit businesses openly link to each other. I would use "no-follow" links, some do and some don't. As long as you are not cheating the system and violating TOS you are safe. Your example would not be violating the TOS

You can do whatever you want with Google as long as:
the sites are legit and providing valuable content google leaves them alone.

No... Google seems to give out more pure spam penalizes than any other. Pure Spam is typically from spun or plagiarized content. So many cutting corners on content it's quite common. It seems to me Google has moved away from manual reviews for linking and algorithmically devalues suspect link manipulation. It's harder to prove with negative SEO.

From your example, if you are just building several sites in the same niche there will be zero risk of penalty. If you use, cloaking or some other tactic that violates Goigle TOS you may not be.

I don't see whats the problem with this. He is doing it very smart. Ranking in the same niche, link to each of them to get even more authority.

Huge companies do exactly the same. Like magazines and so on. I came across a famous and popular german fitness magazine and they basically have 5 other fitness magazines and all of them link to each other. They put all their links in the footer or in a submenu. And why not? If you have 5 other websites, why not linking to them? You don't even need to think in term of SEO. Like if I would be a total noob and don't know anything about SEO, backlinks etc., I would also put links to my other websites in the footer.

I've got a couple of sites in the same niche and all points to one another. None has been penalised and they are all performing solidly fine.

Sometimes, I see my site 1, 2, 3, 4 fighting for the top 4 spots of SERP. Sometimes, outranking one another.

Also, they all share the same AdSense account for over 4 years now.

I don't see anything wrong.

You are right. That's why I quoted your response. You can have a PBN. It just needs to be filled with legit websites. People are tired of junk websites, so Google kicks them out. If you have a pack of 5 star rated websites with one selling travel gear, another selling travel tickets, another selling travel transportation, etc. and everyone is using it, Google isn't going to kick it out.

[/ QUOTE]

Thanks man

Don't do this...

Why not? This owner could be outranking with 3 extra sites a bunch of poor guys sites that can hardly bring some food to their little children because their subsistence is dependent on that ranking.

With that advice, maybe you killed 3 families just to protect a wealthy bastard that swims in money and makes a living by reporting all the competence shamelessly in many other niches.
Shame on you!

PD: There is nothing good or bad without a context. There are only pieces of information. Don't judge so fast.

Thank you all, i will consider the idea of built another sites on the same niche, and from what i understand linking to each others (when is quality content) will not be harmfull.
And big no, i will not report my competitor to mister G, because i m pretty sure everyone on the niche will suffer the consequence (if he decide to revenge to everyone).

Do as you want. Just be aware of the possibility of losing everything. You need to try to keep everything as 'clean' as possible. Of course, many service companies use and abuse the system (probably trained them). The point being these are hugely funded marketing machines.

The big G is clamping down very heavily atm. On the GreyHat (is this even a terminology)?/ don't care anyway, side of things, which I will possibly share at some point - it is much easier to create a differing brand name and identity.

You can always go try the dark side:

This topic is really interesting. I believe there was a thread here on BHW about Envato doing the exact same thing in their footers etc. Does anyone know what thread I'm talking about? I've tried searching for ages, can't find it.

Envato to some extent changed to a subscription model.

There is no way anyone these days wants a stupid anchor link on their own site. But to a new business, they do not know this. It's rather complex, and knowledge does take a number of years to fully understand.

Sadly, we still have CowBoy companies around, using terrible templates - and forcing new businesses via cold calling etc to not only create a site (that a 10-year-old could do). And 'manage' it as well.
