I'm working on a client's site and I have noticed that one of his main competitors is climbing up the serps links crazy. I mean this guy has a 1 year old domain, almost 0% on-site optimization (this makes me question the whole onsite optimization crap), YET he has gone from page 2 to position 2 on multiple keywords over the last 3 months. My question is: what's the most effective way to reverse engineer their SEO strategy? Because whatever they're doing, big G is likey very much. Their Yahoo Site Explorer backlinks count is around 2700.

What all we do you know about the nature of his backlinks? Where are they coming from? The numbers might not mean anything if they've got a decent exposure from an authority site. The free version of Traffic Travis can tell a lot about competitors.

Well...what I'm trying to find out is how to get to all his backlinks. Yahoo Site Expl only shows the first 1000. I need to see the rest. By the way, since my last post, his site moved to position 1 on one of the keywords. I'm telling you, this guy/s have clearly figured out how to beat G.
P.S He is beating established sites that are more than 5 years old and with high PR.

I've been looking at some of his backlinks and here's what I see so far:
*Tons of blog comments, many of them on blogger.
*Very few article directories...I can see why.
* Some profile links. Now, I noticed a strange thing on one of the profile links on bukisa.com. He added 8 anchor text links in total. 7 of those are real keywords and 1 anchor was the name of a let's call it a big company in the business with the link pointing to his money site of course. what would he do that?
