Hey all,
I'm working on "productizing" my work in the SEO space, and I'm at the point of building analyzers for doing competitive analysis.
Right now, I've built/I'm planning on building a:
Backlink Analyzer - Looks at the backlinks, figures out whether they target your keywords, organizes by PR, determines how much link juice you're getting. Sort all the backlinks into categories that match the above so you know what they're doing.
Symmetry Analyzer - Finds the common places that provide backlinks to the places that are tracked as your competitors in search. So, if you're trying to rank for the keyword "small balls", it will check the top 10 and then look at their backlinks and find where multiple are getting backlinks.
Quality Analyzer - Analyzes a site for a keyword.
Think about all of this like the SEO Competition module on MS (awesome tool) on steroids.
Anyway, I want to add a few more tools to help analyze the competition. What is your best practice that you care to share?
I'm thinking about one in particular, which is "categorization" of the backlinks. If i can figure out how to do it, i'd like to be able to say "this link comes from a blog", "this link comes from a directory site", "this comes from a social bookmark" etc. That would be huge from an insight perspective about what/how competitors are doing their work.
Does that make sense to build? Any other thoughts like that, that I should try to add?
