Just for shits and giggles I thought I'd see what google has me ranking for in their webmaster tools...

Apparenty I have about 30 #1 rankings and almost 200 keywords in the top 10. Except most of them are actually nowhere near page 1 when i do a search.

Considering I still do rank for a lot of this stuff, I'm guessing there is some sort of algorithmic -# of spots penalty on me and WMT is showing where I would rank if this penalty can be removed.

I took my unnatural links penalty around the 14th of April... so best case scenario I'll be out of it in a week and a bit. Hopefully worst case, another 10 months. That's assuming you can ever get out of it.

Has anyone had any sort of a recovery from that message and subsequent drop?

Try using some of the filters. By default it includes your average ranking for the keyword in image and video searches and for every google domain around the world.

    Try using -
    Search: Web
    Location: Your_Country

yeah that's after filtering specifically to my country and web searches only. Also restricted to past 7 days only. It doesn't at all correlate to my real serp rankings. If I was ranking as per WMT I'd be absolutely making bank.
