Comment On My Ecommerce/CPA Website Idea and Design

This is a website that I've been wanting to make for awhile but had been putting it off. Yesterday I finally sat down and decided to get started on it.

The website should generate income through product sales and through CPA commissions. I'll either dropship the products that are sold on the site or just order wholesale and resell. All products expire after 24 hours to hopefully make users act quickly when buying. CPA commissions will come from Ads that are released just like the products are. CPA offers will be penny auction offers, email/zip submits, etc.

The way the website is setup, I believe the users will be pretty active on the website. I have timed product releases and $1 bargains that users will be looking for (hopefully they'll be glued to their screens all day).


Anyways, I thought I'd share this idea and journey with you guys.

Oh, and something I'll be adding on the index page is a couple images above the first row of products that explains the $1 bargains and how the site works overall. Might even do a fun "how it works" page. Right now I'm sure the site would be kind of confusing to the users.
 
How do consumers purchase these products? Are just suppose to click on them? I do not know if it is just me but nothing on the site is clickable. Was this built from scratch? Are you using a script?

Also I would like to add is that I am using Google Chrome.

You need to insert the buy now button. Its a little confusing. Overall the design looks ok.

I just started on this yesterday, so I still have to work on the other pages of the site. Thats why the products aren't clickable right now. I'll have a shopping cart setup so the user can complete their purchase.
 
So, products go on sale for a limited time and the price is really low, correct?

If I have the idea correct, then I really like it and I think with the right script, design, products, and advertisements you will have yourself a successful site.
 
Actually, this idea is not completely original. There is a similar site out there there launched 1 month ago and it has 300,000 users already. If you check out there facebook page, you will see that people are spending DAYS on the site trying to get the $1 deal. And in the meantime they are buying other products off the site.

The entire product box/div(product image, name, prices, etc.) will be clickable once I am finished.
 
I agree with you. Use the original site as a base and add a twist.

You have to look at the idea from a users perspective. What would make them want to stay on your site for days. Don't just make your site a place to buy products, make it a community.

If you need help developing the site or brainstorming ideas to add I wouldn't mind helping you out. Just PM me and I can discuss some ideas I have.

I pulled an all-nighter and designed it from scratch. haha

Making it a community is key, that would mean tons of repeat buyers! If the concept works, a forum will be a must. Or I wonder how it would go if I allowed commenting on the product pages, and maybe close commenting after the product time has expired.

There are tons of twists that could be done, maybe I could put together a skype group to discuss things. Good idea!

Another thing. If you do make this some sort of community-like site I think the design should be changed. Something more friendlier. Right now, it looks like a factory's site; its very stock.

Come to think about it, I have tons of ideas (Both good and bad) that might trigger something for you. I will PM them to you later tonight or tomorrow after I get some errands done.

Thanks a lot, I'd love to hear what you have to say! I went with a factory/industrial type design because I wanted to look like we were a wholesale distributor, passing on temporary savings to consumers from our site, before the products are sent to retailers. I'm not sure how believable that will be though, so I may have to change angles and go a little more friendly like you said.
 
Which ever way you go I would recommend that you create a more friendlier theme.

If you just wanted it to be a wholesale/overstock site then I would recommend a theme like Overstock. Overstock has a very nice theme for a wholesale or overstock distributor.

If you want it to be a community site a user friendly theme would be the way to go. I couldn't think of any site themes that would be nice from the top of my head.

It's still the factory type design. After I'm finished with this, I'll also build a more friendly version and split test.
