So, we got a call from Comcast saying that we're "botting" and I'm curious has anyone else got this call? I wasn't aware that TweetAttacks would put a heavy load on their servers.

Am I going to have to find another way to run this program?

Thats wierd as comcast normally doesnt do that as there dsl Well i have never had a problem with them. I even talked to a installer about the same thing his response was we dont care what you do as long as its not interferring with the network.

Comcast has a Constant uprate which means theres no interference to the houses around you unlike cable which is shared bw

Should I stop using them then? Can they really dictate what programs I run?

You are having 250 GB of traffic per month so what you are running is your choice. If they call you again ask them how much bandwidth you have used so far and if its less that 250 then tell them to suck it :)

Comcast is a terrible provider. You should ditch them ASAP and get something better.

Were you using proxies?

Yep. From lists provided by this forum.

Will I get the same restrictions on what I can run? I've never heard of this, but I just started IM. Have you heard of similar stories with different, or the same provider?

Thats so funny because my wife got a email from Comcast on Tuesday stating they believe one of our computers is infected with a bot.

At first I checked my Windows 7 box and then realized that it was infected with a bot. My own Zennoposter bot :)

Planning on making any changes... Or are you going to keep running it? I'm not sure what to do.

Hi My name is Joe. I am new to the Black Hat Forums. I am having trouble with Comcast by ISP.
I had no problem with surfing to and downloading from Black Hat Sites. Lately I have been having problems. Comcast disconnects my internet access after about a 30 minutes of downloading. Now they have never said anything the just disconnect me. I recover the next day. The strange thing is that Oulook and Gmail can access emails, and the Network icon shows I have a strong connection to the network.
This has only happened when I was downloading from a BH Forum. I am afraid to complain to Comcast because I probably am going over their bandwidth limits. But last month I stayed connected for several hours with no problem. Do they accumulate statistics?
Does anyone have the same problem that they have worked around ?
In my readings I think a rotating Proxy Server would solve the problem . It would mask my computer IP number. I have searched everywhere for a tutorial on Proxies and how to install and use them. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can get this basic knowledge ? Also are free public proxies good enough or do I have to get a subscription.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you want to switch ISPs then I would switch to using proxies asap. Treat this is a warning from your ISP that they don't like the way that you're using their network. It's much easier to proactively hide your activities with proxies rather than go through the hassle (and downtime) of switching ISPs after they ban you. Even better is to go with a cheap VPS - keep your home bandwidth for more innocent activities.

You always want to protect your home connection because it's generally much harder and more time consuming to switch home ISPs than it is to switch proxy or VPS providers.

Hmmm, really weird, do you get unlimited braodband usage? if so how can they say your going to heavy on their servers? Just wondering.

ive got a call before.. they started a new way to detect bots. they claim if you they spot your ip (comcast) insisde a botnet channel, they will notify you until you fix it. I was worried when I saw they will continue to notify you until its fixed. I havent recieved a phone call since however.

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/10/comcast-pushes-bot-alert-program-nationwide/

Douglas said the bot intelligence is coming from Damballa, an Atlanta-based security company that monitors botnet activity and identifies botnet control networks. If Damballa spots a Comcast Internet address that is phoning home to one of these botnet command centers, Comcast's system flags that customer's address for a service notice.

I believe its inaccurate and not working as its supposed to

its not bandwidth issue as I was on 50 up and 50 down. they just cap your speeds if your overusing

I've gotten it and also solved it by getting Comcast Business Class internet. Removed the bandwidth cap and they don't really care what I do. They expect me to use a buttload of bandwidth.

I'm thinking someone reported your IP address to Comcast (at least that's what I think happened in my case).

Theres a Comcast scam calling going around saying your computers infected with a bot and trying to get you to download some ppi offer they have, could just be that. Unless your violating canspam or some form of law then your bandwidth is yours to use how you like
