Combining Pages Into One

So I want to combine multiple pages into one huge 2k word page. These two pages have both been up for about 5 months.
Basically I want to delete one and combine it with another one. I'm just worried about the duplicate content. Does anyone have a guide or some tips on to how to go about doing this? I'm really worried about the duplicate content penalty. Thanks in advanced.

if the words on each page are different i dont think you should be worried about dublicate content

If both pages are quite similar then yes, combine them into one.

Well i want to take the content in page 2 and just paste it into page 1. Is this safe or should i just rewrite it?

You remember to 301 the old page to the new one?

By the way if you're talking about content from your OWN site being used on your OWN site then thats not what people mean when they talk about a duplicate content penalty. They are typically talking about duplicating content from outside their site. From my understanding at worst Google would simply IGNORE content that it see's being used multiple times on your site on all but the main page it is on. So if I have a 100 word content chunk and use it on every item page in my store at the bottom then Google ignores it on all but one page.

Another possible route is this: You could KEEP the old page and move its content over and then use the canonical tag to tell Google that the NEW combined page is the one to now index and "count" so to speak. This is a BIT risky, as I haven't seen it done in combining pages before in my work... but theoretically it is something you could research before considering as an alternative to stuff like 301's.
