.com vs .net vs .org vs .co

How do those domain extensions compare to each other? I'm mostly interested in .co
How does it stuck up against others? I'm asking that because .co isn't columbia's domain anymore, it's gTLD so as I know G treat every gTLD same but people tell me that it can't be compared to the others. What do you think?

Unless you are trying local niche or are concerned about the security aspect , all are equal from SEO viewpoint . If I wanted a .co i would also make sure I have a .com because people have a habit of doing ctrl+enter .

If I'm targeting a particular country then I would go with the local extension.

Otherwise its always .COM then all the rest without any particular order of preference.

Thanks everybody for replies. As I can see from your answers every gTLD has the same treatment when it's about ranking unless I'm ranking for particular location and maybe (just maybe) .com can be bit more powerful.
