.com or .net?

Hey!
what's the general consensus about the advatages of having a .com vs a.net domain name?

I've used a .net doamin for my business for 10 years as mybrand.net because the .com was not available. I just managed to purchase the .com version now, so I'm wondering if it would be worth moving the site over to the .com and redirecting the existing pages to the new domain or shall I keep using the .net as the main website since it's already ranking well and has 10y history.
What are the pros and cons?

If .net is well ranked and has traffic, then it makes no sense to switch to .com. Purely my opinion
 
I agree with the credibility of a .com site. The domain I want is taken and the only other option is .net, .org, etc. The is mostly the reason I haven't purchased the other options

I agree with you, however, long term I would prefer having it as a .com, being my main business name. But I'm torn about giving up my existing domain authority.
 
Been asked many a time on here.

A .com is a global Tld that adds a level of credibility, looks better than spammy, .xyz as an example.

For seo purposes, it doesn't matter what you go with.


My personal preferences are .com, then .co.uk ( for my UK sites ), .Org, .Net and .Info - In that order.
 
then everything is simple if you still want to use .com, then you need to correctly implement the redirect from .net to .com if you still have an old site on .net. Only with such a move is it possible to lose traffic for a while

Salam,
I'm definitely with you there bro, that's why I jumped for joy when I managed to get it today. However, the .net domain is ranking OK and making ~200k/year in product sales, so I will be sweating when I change the site over to .com despite the fact that I will be redirecting every well ranking page individually making sure I transfer all the authority to the new pages on the .com domain.
I'm sure that long term it will be better, but missing out on some traffic short term would hurt me a lot.
