Has anyone tested this out? I've done a few small tests and the results are mixed. Overall, do .coms get more reach than others like .us and the ones that are not blocked automatically (.xyz)?

More reach in what way?

Organically speaking, one should not have any preference over the others as far as Google's ranking algo is concerned. However, from a branding perspective (and even a trust perspective from consumers), dot com will always rule.

More reach on the news feed. Almost all the "spam" I've seen on facebook is mostly from .com domains (some new, some aged- which i'm sure plays into their algo too). I found this weird, since they're basically just throwaway domains meant to last a few weeks if that. Cost adds up over time.

Edit: I'm not talking about link shares from just pages either but shares from fake and popular accounts and such.

depends in where , in facebook yes they may be giving priority to .com .net and not to .xyz , also instagram may list suspicious for .xyz since everyone using this kind of domains for landing pages.
