College? How far should I go?

I'm very young right now, not even in college yet.
But I'm trying to decide up my future as I have to start getting good grades if I'm going to get anywhere in school.

First off, I'm going to go farther than required school (as I call it).
When the law says I can quit I will stay longer for being a little social and meeting people.

But how far should I go?
And should I ever learn any computer science (lol), marketing or something like that?

I won't need anything but should I learn some tech stuff?

What is your thought for those that money/job ain't a problem.

I am currently studying a degree in commerce, and can tell you that some of the stuff is useful no matter what you do.

I'm 17, and am already learning a lot from the marketing course I'm enrolled in.

Truth be told, if I had the choice and promise of work, I probably wouldn't be in uni.

Stay in school. It's not just about the specific information you learn. The longer you spend in education, the more sophisticated your thought processes will become. This comes from having to sit down, learn and then process/evaluate information for essays and exams. Education makes you a better thinker.

Okay will do, although if I act like I normally do. I'll just say no you can learn the stuff yourself and train your mind that way, no stupid teachers needed.

education doesnt only come from school, while i am in fact still enrolled in university.
a level placement test i took in 6th grade said i had the capabilities of a 12th grader.. needless to say i had straight A's.
yet i almost failed every year 7th thru 10th grades cause even though i would learn all the material, i never did any work.

TV taught me everything i needed to know.
discovery channel/animal planet/ even comedy shows!
i learned about animals/space/technology/sitcoms taught me how big words and how to use em
i fell in love with seinfeld in the second grade, my dad says i saw two people kissing at the airport and screamed "look daddy! they're having SEX!!!!"

anyway, education is important, and by all means stay in school.
but i never have and never will consider school to be the main source of learning.

i attribute that to watching t.v. reading books and magazines and googling everything.
oh, and my dad taught me everything i know about handling money.
handed me a kiyosaki book when i was 12 and paid me to read it LOL

your business class will never teach you things that "think and grow rich" or any of the kiyosaki/trump books will.

and its hard to believe that "school" is what is right for every single child on this planet.
all my university does, is teach my code. for the sole purpose that i graduate in 3 years and get a job as an employee at a software company. making 50k a year.

i personally want more than that, much more.

excuse all the personal stuff, just thought that maybe my experiences might give you an insight into making your own decision.

I'm a Junior (19 year old tho) in an Engineering field that has a starting salary of ~95k/year

That is very high for a 22 year old - when I graduate.

I'm planning on getting a Masters degree right after, the only problem is I wasn't prepared for an engineering major and I now have a 2.0 GPA...,

Go as far as your money will take you. It will all pay off in the end.

Pick anything you really want to learn or are passionate about. No matter what you learn in a higher education environment it will expand your mind to different opportunities in the future.

Just don't think that your education will teach you everything you need to know to go out there and become wealthy. It's up to you to take the info and continue to learn and most importantly implement it!

Invest in yourself and keep up the IM...

Today's kids have it so easy... what with all the information in various forms and media available to them (internet, cable, etc.)... and that makes it easy for them not to understand the value of a proper education.

In my day (god I feel so old saying that) there was no g00gle, cable was only available to the rich...

The thing is, if you have the means (time, finances, etc.) to go to school, do so. We've got kids in third world countries who struggle day in and day out, who have to walk miles, through rugged terrain, just to attend a make-shift school-- just to learn to read and write. For them, it wasn't a question of "Should I stay in school?" but more along the lines of "HOW do I get to school?" or "Can I even go to school? At what cost?"

Think about how blessed you are.

I'm sorry, I just had to say that... I'm not guilt-tripping nor do I mean to diss anybody. In fact, I take my *black* hat off to the young 'uns here who are taking the initiative to take control of their finances at such early ages.

Wish I'd had the same opportunity back then.

But go where you wanna go. Go as far as you dare to go. In the end, it's all gonna be about you and what you have done with the things you've learned-- from school or otherwise.

STAY IN FUCKING SCHOOL, GO TO COLLEGE. Do your fucking homework, high school is a joke, even taking all honors. I mean just do the homework and you really can't get below a B-

I could advise all sorts of things on this but as for answering your actual questions in the OP, I'd say research what the top ten careers for the next ten years are, pick one that is relevant to your personal interests and go with that. Ten years ago when I did that, the top job was forecast to be, of course, "computer programmer".
