We have an AI image generator product with a domain DR6.

We are building a new product. It’s not exactly relevant to the existing domain. But related.

Should I reuse this exiting domain or should I create a new domain to start from zero again?

A. Use existing domain , but not super relevant

B. New domain specifically for this niche , but old start

Which one would you choose?

Thanks!

If it's related then use the same domain.

You can use a fresh domain and 301 the old domain to it.
If it's a fresh new product, I think it would be better in the long run to have a brandable name that fits.

Reusing your existing domain, even if it's not perfectly aligned with the new product. The domain already has some authority and backlinks, which help you rank faster and drive traffic more efficiently than starting from scratch.

thanks everyone for the replies!

BHW rocks!

I asked the same question on sub-reddit and some other community. Got way more replies here. Thanks!

Based on my experience, there's definitely an element of luck involved. I've seen unrelated niche domains rank for YMYL topics simply because the domain had strong authority and Google trusted it. But this doesn't happen every time, which is why I say luck plays a part.

On the other hand, I've seen brand new domains rank quickly on other people's sites, but that feels like some kind of black magic—I still don't understand how they managed to pull it off. Personally, I’ve never had that kind of success with new domains, so I wouldn’t recommend using one to rank unless you specifically need it to match your brand name. Otherwise, there’s no real need to go out of your way to pick a brand new domain.

Hello, lyogavin

I think in the long run, the domain name still needs to be related to the business, which can increase user stickiness and trust
